The real damage of Nigerian scams

If you have an email address, chances are that you or those on your contact list have been invited to claim obscene amounts of money under the guise of secrecy. They are known as the 409 Nigerian scams.

People who reply to inquire more about these scams get placed on responsive lists for these scammers. You become known as an easy target. And more elaborate tales will be sent to your inbox on a weekly or monthly basis. These so called Nigerians do a lot of damage to themselves, the internet marketing community and African people.

I am an African from Cape Town South Africa. I am proud of that singular fact. I have built up a small business selling an
online
marketing course
, which I learnt a lot from. It is a
great product
and has great reviews.

I am worried about the inherent lack of initial trust that I
see in my customers. This problem is not unique to just African marketers; it
also affects Caucasian and Asian marketers. We have to sell a low priced
unassuming product first or online marketing course
give away something,
before we sell a high quality
product
to gain trust. This should not be so; we should be selling
great products only and pricing them competitively.

Why did I go of on a tangent? Because Trust is the most important thing to have and it becomes destroyed by these pests. Yes I am sad to realize that some of my brothers are responsible for damaging a great medium like the internet with their blatant promises and damaging the trust in human nature. It is not the trust in Africans that is lost; it is the trust in the internet community that suffers.

And I find this very sad indeed. I hope at least one of them sees this post and goes legit instead of robbing from wonderful trusting internet customers.
